Gourmet Food, Baskets, and Gifts.

The word “gourmet” is a French term for a wine broker, or someone who tastes winds and determines their value, but now this word has been applied to a wide variety of exquisite foods and preparation methods. It can be a class of restaurant, a type of food, special presentation, and even simply sophistication.
For a long time gourmet food was considered elitist and reserved for the rich, the word was almost synonymous with gluttony in France, but in the last thirty years this has changed greatly due to an overall increase in income, interest and access to more recipes and preparation ideas and methods, as well as an increased awareness of what foods are ingested. Some people call them “foodies”, but even the average Joe often consumes gourmet coffee and other delicacies.
There are many places to find the best food that money can offer, and some of them are even affordable. Not everyone can afford to pay a professionally trained chef to prepare their meals every day like some of the richer and more famous people around, but anyone can learn how to cook elaborate dishes with fine ingredients or even better, elaborate and delicious dishes from everyday ingredients.
Although gourmet ingredients are often more expensive money can be saved by buying foods locally and unfrozen. 75% of nutrients and flavor are lost within minutes of picking a fruit or vegetable and the same is true with meat. The best chefs pride themselves with getting the freshest and best available ingredients. Local growers and butchers have some of the tastiest foods no matter where they are located, often for much cheaper than the same food at a grocery store.
Some foods that are typically considered gourmet are lobster tails which can be cooked in any number of different ways, chocolate, specifically dark chocolate and truffles, many different types of seafood, coffee, mixed drinks, desserts and of course wine and cheese.
Wine and cheese can turn any ordinary event into something a bit more sophisticated and high class. A wine doesn’t have to be expensive to be delicious, some of the best wines are in the $15-30 range and cheese typically ranges from $5 a pound up to $25 per pound for the most difficult to craft queso. Add some fancy crackers, Ritz really won’t do, add some friend and prepare for a night of conversation and fun.
The most important aspect is always the company that the meal or appetizer is shared with. Friends and family are always nice, but these dishes can also be used to wine and dine potential clients, business partners, and customers. It is incredibly useful at impressing the fairer sex, but don’t be surprised if she is more impressed with the chefs cooking skills than your subtle advances.
